語言是人類溝通的媒介，格蘭的使命就是讓世界上不同區域的人類皆能使用中文、英文之一及地方語而互相溝通。對中國人來說就是讓中國人能戰勝英語，進而達成人類長遠之最高之理想“天下為公、世界大同”。

　　Language is the medium by which people communicate. It's Gram's mission to enable people from different regions around the world to communicate in Chinese, English, or their own dialects. We hope to help all the Chinese - speaking population conquer English in order to achieve -“World Peace with a Global–the highest ideal of mankind.

　　小說家Adames亞當斯在小說中說到「人們在耳朵中塞進Babel Fish於是大家都能聽得懂彼此的語言」，這道出了人類想要彼此無溝通障之強烈願望。

　　Novelist Douglas Adams mentioned in his novel, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, that “when a Babel fish is inserted into the ear canal it allows the 'wearer' to instantly understand anything said...in any form of language." This shows human being's strong desire to communicate without any language barriers.

　　歷史上許多人想發明世界語，1879年德國神父Sheleyer許萊爾發明Volapuk語，簡單易學是它的特點，十年後快速發展到德國、法國、澳洲及部份美洲時共有283個語言團體支持它，但更快速的被不停的修改，結果快速的敗亡。

　　Many people throughout the history of mankind had attempted to invent a lingua franca. In 1879, Johann Martin Schleyer, a Catholic priest in Baden, Germany created an international language called Volapuk, which was easy to learn and understand. Within ten years, it was adopted in Germany, France, Australia, and America. As of 1889, there were an estimated 283 clubs supporting the use of the language. However, it soon failed due to constant changes and modifications of the language.

　　中國歷經幾千年的發展中文已逐漸普及，但堅持排斥外國語言，結果雖然成為地區大國，但是擔心推動外語最終會削弱自己國力結果滿清王朝的愚民政策所導致的是八國聯軍，自欺欺人，不求進化的政策只會被孤立而終招淘汰，甚至亡國。

　　The Chinese language has gradually been popularized after thousands of years of evolvement. However, the emperors of recent dynasties had discouraged the learning of other foreign languages. While China was a regional superpower at the time, its xenophobic leaders had also excluded any foreign influence since they feared it might undermine their leadership. As a result, the government's policy of isolation actually backfired, causing China to lag behind the Western world in the development of modern science and technology. For example, the Manchurian Qing government eventually resulted in its own demise during the invasion of the Alliance of Eight Nations. This shows that the policy of self-deception and complacency will only lead to isolation and ultimately the destruction of a country.

　　現代世界各地的人，多半都因為能熟悉使用二∼三種他國語言（通常是中文、英文及當地語言），而成為政、商、學界之成功人物（尤其在香港、新加坡、歐美各地及台灣的人們都早已能深切的感受到）。而這些地區及國家也都證明我們人類學習2∼3種語言是非常容易的。要是能在十歲以前開始學習外國語那更是輕而易舉容易事。

　　Today many people around the world can fluently speak two or more languages such as Chinese, English, or other dialects. Thanks to their language proficiency, these multi-lingual speakers are usually the movers and shakers in politics, business, and academics in their societies. This is especially true in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Europe, and America. It proves that it's possible to master two or more languages. Research has also shown that it's fairly easy for children who are 10 years old or younger to learn other foreign languages.

　　1980年6月6日格蘭創校，在 「Gram Makes English Make Sense.」使命的堅持下，首先格蘭把當時只在少數語言研究機構使用的Phonics研發成更為簡易的英語學習工具，而成功的使用在台灣的英語補習教育。自那時開始，學英文再也不會怪腔怪調，由於能見字拼音把背單字的登天難事變成 「a piece of cake.」。

　　GRAM was established on June 6th 1980. With the principle of “GRAM makes English make sense,” we had simplified the phonics technique that only few schools in Taiwan were using at that time, and turned it into a powerful tool for learning English. Since then, learning English is no longer difficult. GRAM's students can learn to speak English with a better accent; and spelling has also become “just a piece of cake.”

　　其次在1983年我們察覺當時的英語正規教育受法令約束進展太慢，追不上時代的需求，於是向國人喊出「Conquer English Come to Gram.」「戰勝英語 格蘭英語」開始推動英語補習教育事業之企業化經營，其後又在補教協會張浩然先生及許多補教同業的努力下，共同推動了兒童英語合法化，及外籍教師聘僱制度的合理化，一路走來雖然倍感辛苦，如今回首28年，眼見近年陳水扁總統、宋楚瑜先生、馬英九市長、李遠哲院長，都異口同聲，強調英語學習的重要，格蘭企業今年邁入第29年，享譽台灣，愈來愈多國人說的一口流利的英語，國人英語能力不論說寫比起臨國都有長足領先，格蘭英語能啟風氣之先讓國人戰勝英語，伴隨國人暢行全世界實感辛慰。

　　In 1983 we realized that the regulations governing English education in Taiwan were so strict that the development of domestic English education was too slow compared to that of other countries. Therefore, we decided to inform the people in Taiwan the concept of “Conquer English, Come to GRAM” and started encouraging the expansion of English education schools as private enterprises in Taiwan. Later, with the help of Mr. Chang of the Taipei Cram School Association and other cram schools, we together helped accomplish the legalization of children's English education as well as the employment of foreign English teachers. In recent years, President Chen Shui-Bien, Mr. James Soong, and Taipei Mayor Mr. Ma Ying-jeou, and Dr. Yuan-Tseh Lee, President of Academia Sinica, have all unanimously agreed that it's important to learn English well. This year is GRAM's 28th year in business as a widely respected language institute in Taiwan. For 28 years, we have certainly achieved much. We have helped so many people learn English well that when compared with our Asian neighbors, Taiwanese people still have better English language proficiency. We feel so proud that GRAM can be a pioneer in the field of English education.

　　 「宗教滿足人類的精神需求；企業滿足人的物質需求」。我說格蘭是教育性服務業，我們在滿足人類的知識需求。我們先讓中國人說好英語，接著讓全世界的人都說好中文，當大家語言隔閡不見了，世界上人們的學習與溝通將更容易，自我意識更容易消除，世界大同以往只是世人的夢想，只想要別人使用自己的語言，排除他國的語言，這種狹心症引發了無數的戰爭。事實上我們若是在不忘本的狀態下，大家都有自己的語言， 目前許多人談地球村，語言相通後能讓大家更容易彼此
